JOB DESCRIPTION

A Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment by patrolling, monitoring, and implementing security procedures. This role involves protecting people, property, and assets from theft, vandalism, or other potential threats.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal academic entry requirements. For some vacancies a current and clean driving licence is required and entrants may have to pass a medical examination. Training is typically provided on-the-job. NVQs/SVQs covering various aspects of security guarding are available at Level 2.

TASKS

  • Conduct regular patrols of the premises, both on foot and/or using security vehicles..
  • Monitor surveillance cameras to detect and prevent security breaches..
  • Control access to the premises by verifying identification and issuing visitor badges..
  • Ensure that only authorized individuals enter restricted areas..
  • Conduct routine security checks of doors, windows, and gates to identify and address potential vulnerabilities..
  • Report and document any security-related issues..
  • Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, or incidents..
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services when necessary..
  • Monitor and control crowds during events or high-traffic periods..
  • Provide assistance and direction to ensure a safe and orderly environment..
  • Provide assistance and information to employees, visitors, and customers..
  • Act as a visible and approachable presence to deter criminal activity..
  • Document and report security incidents, accidents, or suspicious activities..
  • Maintain accurate and detailed logs of daily activities..
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure a coordinated approach to security..
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors..
